Voltenna! POWER SURGE!

okay first i'm going to talk about the drawing and then, the purpose of this contest.

lolol idk i am so sorry you guys i didn't come up with a cool name. it's "volt' plus a random girly-sounding suffix. XDD Voltenna, a girl who is smart, fearless, tough, and she fights using electricity and lightning. she's really smart when it comes to electronics and technology. she can think and move super fast, like lightning.

she's on the roof of a building and it has an extra part that sticks up and has the door... there is another building in the bg with an extra part sticking up that has the roof door. hard to see though XD also one of the buildings has a satellite dish on top and it's colored a little wierd-ly sorry XDD

the electricity energy ball thingy can be formed by using electricity in the air, and through her weird headpiece thing (each piece is attached to her hair) and also, from the electricity channeled into her finger. and yep she can gather electricity from surrounding electronic objects. so yeah she's super cool and stuff 8D

she came up to the roof though the stairs (but she can fly though) she used super strength and stuff, or a big electric attack, (can't decide) to break a huge hole in the door that you see off on the side! that door was made of a thick metal! the point is, she is really strong o___o

the wall and door there were both purposely colored in a way that wasn't perfectly smooth. i don't always want to color everything the exact same texture.

i'm bad at drawing things perfectly neat and straight lol ^___^UU eheh

i really like how this picture came out ^___^ and it was so interesting and fun for me to draw! i loved doing the electricity!! *____* although sadly, the electricity looks brighter in real life. (tried to use some white paint effects and i guess when scanned, they didn't show up too well)

obligatory talk about the meaning behind the contest:

go to the link i posted way above and actually read about why this contest was created. read it? good!! did it make you mad?!! it made me mad, i thought that guy who wrote that critique was such a ridiculous sexist pig. no i'm sorry but photoshopped magazine cover girls like sports illustrated do not represent real, normal girls. they represent the idealized "perfect" girl body and in REAL LIFE not in your fantasies, all girls aren't shaped like those photoshopped SI girls. girls have a variety of body shapes... oh and btw just 'cause a girl is curvy and not stick-thin doesn't mean she's too "fat" or something.

look i'm fine if guys who draw comics want to draw their ideal girl or something but it just becomes silly when your girl is more known for her body and her silly stripperiffic outfit than for her actual character and personality. and that brings us the escher girls blog: [link] i only heard about this blog because i learned about it from this contest. but it is REALLY REALLY funny and you all have to check it out. XDDDD it's just awesome <3

-"but i don't see any other 'fat' girls in your gallery"
lol it's true ;___; because i'm still trying to learn to correctly draw a girl's "normal"/"standard" body type. hey at least i did this contest.... *shot* okay okay i should start doing other body types too. but honestly it's hard enough just doing the "standard" one.

-"but what about girls who draw sexy GUYS, huh?"
I STRONGLY SUPPORT THAT no jk i mean, i am fine with either gender wanting to draw a person with a sexy looking body. the problem comes when their body looks extremely exaggerated, (see escher girls) or when their body is more important than their personality as a well-written character!
and girls in society/culture are held to tougher standards when it comes to beauty. there's pressure on guys too but moreso on girls.

-"i used to be fat/chubby/overweight and i lost weight. do you not care about that?"
actually i do care a lot about that. if you wanted to lose weight and you did, that's GREAT. i am actually inspired by people who lost weight because that's a goal they worked hard for and they achieved it.

-"obesity can lead to health problems, sachi. you shouldn't glorify unhealthiness."
that's true but having some extra weight on you doesn't automatically equal health problems. if you have some chubbiness and it actually isn't causing you health issues and you feel fine with your body then that's good! it's also true that i do NOT support unhealthy lifestyles. some extra weight is okay but yes there is a point where you're obviously WAY too big and you really will have health problems. i am NOT trying to say that very obese people should do nothing to change their lifestyle!!

"since you want to talk on and on about this subject, what's your own personal experience, from your own life?"
i feel like i might as well tell you what perspective i have. i've never been overweight/fat/chubby/whatever. (yet i'm still inspired by weight-loss stories!!) i was almost underweight as a child. obviously people's bodies usually change somewhat in their teens, due to puberty. so now , while i'm still not "chubby" or anything, i'm definitely curvier than before, in some places XDDDD i'm 5'0 and about 103 pounds. i have a kinda okay body image. there are things i don't like about my body... but isn't that true for a lot of people? when i start to have negative feelings about my body, i have to tell myself that i look just fine.
//but btw my body is such a weird shape that it's hard to find clothes that fit correctly OTL i hate my body *sob* NO!! I WON'T SAY THAT *tries to be positive*

-"i heard you're making a superhero comic. is Voltenna going to be in it?"
yes i am making a superhero manga eventually, called The Adventures of SuperAwesomePants. but i didn't create this character for the purpose of ASAP. i created her just for this contest. but, i decided that i really might make her a character in my manga!! =') i randomly thought of a name for her: Candace. <3 so, you'll see this girl again!! ^____^
